What Sentacle is

Sentacle is a turn-based word game played over a link. On your turn you build one grammatical English sentence out of tiles and lay it onto a shared board, crossing what is already there, and you score for the words you make. A sentence has to read as real English: it is checked for spelling and grammar, and then judged for whether it means something. Games are asynchronous, so nobody has to be online at the same time, and there is nothing to install and no account required to play.

How do I invite someone?

Start a game from the home page and you land on your own board with the invite links beside it. A two-player game has one link; a three- or four-player game deals one link per open seat, so each person gets their own. Send a link however you like, and the game begins when the seats fill.

The link is the seat. Anyone holding it can play that seat, so send each one to one person and treat it like a key. The links stay on your game screen, so you can copy a link again later if a message got lost.

How do notifications work?

They are off until you ask for them. Open the account circle in the top corner and you can turn on turn reminder emails for this game, or for all games as a default. We email you when it is your turn, once when a game has been idle long enough that it is about to end, when a game finishes, and when someone offers you a rematch.

Every one of those emails carries an unsubscribe link, and it works at two levels: stop reminders for one specific game, or turn off the all-games default entirely. Both are honored immediately, and an unsubscribed seat is not emailed again for any reason.

If you play in the iOS app you can also allow push notifications for your turn. That is a separate choice from email, and you can turn it off in iOS Settings at any time.

How do I delete my account or my data?

Email privacy@sentacle.app from the address on your account and we will take care of it. There is no form and no retention offer. You can also ask us what we hold about you, ask for a copy, or ask us to correct it.

Deleting your account removes your email address, your notification settings, and any device tokens. Games you played in may remain on your opponents' boards, because a shared board is not solely yours to erase, but they will no longer be connected to you or your email address. Say so in your message if you want the boards themselves taken down and we will do what we can with the other players' interests in mind. The Privacy Policy has the full picture of what we store and why.

My sentence was rejected and it was fine

Sometimes it was. Judging whether a sentence is well-formed and meaningful is a judgment call made partly by software, and it gets things wrong in both directions. A rejection costs you nothing but a retry: no turn is lost, no points are deducted, and your tiles stay where they are.

When you disagree, press This was wrong beside the rejection (it appears as a small report link in the more compact places). That flags the exact sentence and the verdict that rejected it for review, which is how the checks get better. Please use it. It is more useful to us than an email, because it carries the sentence itself.

Something else

Write to support@sentacle.app. Bugs, stuck games, a link that will not open, account trouble, or a player behaving badly: all of it reaches us there. If it is about a specific game, include the game link and we can look straight at it.
